Terms and Conditions

Last updated: 4 August 2026

These terms govern your use of the Pink Pulse breast self-check app, provided free of charge by Breast Cancer Care ("BCC", "we", "us").

By using the app you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the app.

The most important thing

This app is not a medical device, and it cannot tell you whether you have breast cancer.

  • It supports the habit of regular breast self-examination and helps you learn what is normal for you.
  • It does not diagnose any condition, and it is not a substitute for examination by a doctor, for mammography, or for any other clinical screening.
  • An "all clear" result means only that you answered no to six questions on that day. It is not a clean bill of health and it does not mean nothing is wrong.
  • A "needs attention" result is not a diagnosis. It means one of your answers is worth discussing with a healthcare professional.

Always consult a doctor about any change or concern, whatever the app says. Do not delay seeking medical advice because of anything you read or record here.

In an emergency, contact your doctor or go to your nearest hospital immediately. Do not use this app to seek urgent help.

Using the app does not create any doctor-patient or clinical relationship between you and BCC.

Who may use the app

[BCC TO CONFIRM: the minimum age. We suggest 18.] The app is designed for adults and assumes an adult's understanding of the guidance it gives.

Breast self-examination is relevant to people of any gender. The app is for anyone who wants to build the habit.

Your account and your data

There is no account and no sign-up. Everything you record is stored on your own device.

This has consequences you should understand before you rely on the app:

  • Your information does not move between devices. It is encrypted with a key that stays on the phone where it was created, so it cannot be transferred to a new phone or restored from a backup. If you change or lose your phone, your history is gone.
  • If you set a PIN and forget it, it cannot be recovered. There is no reset, no security question and no way for us to help. Your only option is to delete the app's data and start again.
  • "Delete all my data" is permanent. It cannot be undone by us or by you.
  • Your self-check history is deleted automatically after 90 days. If you want to keep a longer record, use the share option on the History screen to send a summary to yourself or your doctor.
  • Deleting the app deletes your information. Reinstalling gives you an empty app.

You are responsible for keeping your device secure, and for anyone you allow to use it.

Using the app properly

You agree not to:

  • use the app for any unlawful purpose
  • attempt to gain unauthorised access to our systems, or to interfere with, overload or disrupt the service
  • copy, modify, reverse engineer or redistribute the app, except where the law gives you that right regardless of these terms
  • use automated means to access our service, or to submit false or bulk information through it
  • present the app, or anything in it, as medical advice or as your own

Submitting deliberately false self-check results harms the information BCC uses to plan services for people who need them.

Information inside the app

The educational content, awareness banners and testing centre listings are provided for general information.

  • We take care to keep them accurate but we do not guarantee that they are complete, current or free of error.
  • Testing centre details, including opening hours and telephone numbers, may change. Please telephone ahead before travelling.
  • Banners and messages may link to other websites. Those sites are not ours, we do not control them, and we are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices.

Availability

We provide the app free of charge and we do not promise it will always be available.

The core of the app works offline. Some parts, such as awareness banners and this text, need a connection. We may occasionally place the app in maintenance mode while we make changes, during which it will show a maintenance screen instead of the usual content.

We may change, suspend or discontinue the app, or any part of it, at any time.

Notifications

If you allow notifications, we may send you reminders for your scheduled self-check and occasional breast health awareness messages from BCC. You can turn these off at any time in Settings or in your phone's settings.

Ownership

The app, its name, the Pink Pulse mark, its design and its content belong to BCC or to our licensors, and are protected by copyright and trade mark law. You may use the app for your own personal, non-commercial breast health awareness. No other rights are granted.

What you record in the app is yours. It stays on your device and we claim no rights over it.

Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains what the app does with your information. It forms part of these terms.

Our responsibility to you

We provide the app in good faith and free of charge, and we do our best to make it accurate and reliable. But it is an awareness tool, not a clinical service, and it is offered "as is".

To the fullest extent the law allows:

  • We are not liable for any decision you make, or do not make, about your health based on the app. The app cannot detect cancer, and a result from it is never a reason to delay seeing a doctor.
  • We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of data stored on your device.
  • We are not liable for the content or availability of third-party websites the app links to, or for the accuracy of testing centre information supplied to us.

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that the law does not allow us to exclude. If you are a consumer, these terms do not affect your statutory rights.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The current version is always available in the app under Settings → Terms and Conditions, with the date it was last changed at the bottom. If a change is significant we will bring it to your attention in the app. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Mauritius, and the courts of Mauritius have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them or from your use of the app.
